With the advent of Microsoft Edge’s Chromium-based platform, web translation capabilities have significantly enhanced. This guide presents various methods for translating entire pages or selected text seamlessly in Microsoft Edge, along with setup instructions and tips for effective usage.
Setting Up Your Preferred Languages

- Click the hamburger menu (three dots) in the top-right corner, and select “Settings.”
- In the new tab, navigate to the “Languages” section.
- Click “Add languages” to include additional languages to your preferences.
- Select desired languages and click “Add.”
- Ensure the option “Offer to translate pages that aren’t in a language I read” is toggled on.
- Your browser will now automatically detect and offer translation for pages in unsupported languages.
Ways to Translate a Page
Once your preferred languages are set, you can translate pages using the following methods:
1. Automatic Translation
This method allows Edge to handle translation for you:
- Visit a webpage in an unsupported language.
- Look for the Translate icon in the search bar; it should appear automatically.
- Select your desired language from the dropdown menu.
- Click “More” and then select “Always translate XXXX” for future translations.
- Click “Translate” to convert the page.
All pages in this language will now be automatically translated. Use the Translate icon for adjustments at any time.
2. Manual Translation
To perform a one-off translation of a page:
- Manually click the Translate icon or wait for its popup.
- Choose your language and click “Translate.”
- To skip the translation, click “More” for options such as “Not Now” or “Never translate.”
Adjust your settings anytime using the Translate icon.
3. Partial Translation
For translating specific text snippets:
- Highlight the desired text.
- Right-click and select “Translate selection to XXXX.”
- The translation will appear and remain until the page reloads.
- To revert to the original, click the Translate icon and select “Show original.”
4. Using Microsoft CoPilot
Leverage CoPilot AI for translating text:
- Open CoPilot from the top-right icon.
- Copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) your text into the chat window, asking for a translation.
- CoPilot will return the translated text promptly.
With these methods, users can efficiently manage translations in Microsoft Edge without needing to switch applications or tabs.
