Troubleshooting Guide: Fixing Apple TV Stuck on AirPlay Screen
If you’re facing issues with your Apple TV getting stuck on the AirPlay screen, follow this guide for effective solutions. The steps outlined apply to both standard Apple TV models and the Apple TV 4K.
1. Disable Conference Room Display
The Conference Room Display mode allows anyone with an Apple device to easily share their screen. If enabled, this could cause your Apple TV to remain stuck on the AirPlay screen.
- Open Settings on your Apple TV home screen.
- Scroll down and select AirPlay and HomeKit.
- Select Conference Room Display.
- Turn off the Conference Room Display option.
2. Use Screen Mirroring from Your iPhone
If disabling the setting proves difficult, you can use Screen Mirroring via your iPhone to regain control.
- Swipe down from the top-right corner of your iPhone to open Control Center.
- Tap the Screen Mirroring option.
- Select your Apple TV from the list of devices.
- Open the Remote app in Control Center.
- Double-tap the Home Button to access apps on your Apple TV.
- Navigate to Settings > AirPlay and HomeKit > Conference Room Display, and turn it off.
3. Restore Apple TV
If you’re unable to access the Conference Room Display due to a forgotten PIN, restoring your Apple TV is necessary.
- Unplug your Apple TV, then connect it to a Mac or PC with iTunes using the appropriate cable.
- Plug in the power cable and turn on your Apple TV.
- Open Finder or iTunes on your computer.
- Select your Apple TV icon from the sidebar.
- Choose Restore Apple TV and wait for the process to complete.
4. Link Your Apple TV Remote Again
If your Apple TV is still frozen, relink the remote:
For 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Generation Remotes
- Press and hold the Left Navigation and Menu buttons for five seconds to unlink.
- To relink, press and hold the Right Navigation and Menu buttons.
For Siri Remote
- Long-press the Volume Down and Back buttons simultaneously for five seconds to reset the remote.
5. Update tvOS
After resolving the AirPlay screen issue, ensure your tvOS is up to date:
- Navigate to Settings on your Apple TV.
- Scroll down to select System.
- Go to Software Updates.
- Select Update Software and install any available updates.
